Okay. I have come to a conclusion.

I blame Bill Clinton.

I know, I know, it's so Y2K of me. But really, think about it: seldom has one man had the chance to change history by simply not getting a blow job. Can you imagine? Peace, prosperity, a budget surplus; take away Monica and Gore would have never had to distance himself from Clinton, he could have had the Big Dog in the trenches with him.

Remember the old election refrain, that there was no difference between Bush and Gore? Anyone who can look me in the face (er, screen) and tell me that now is delusional. We would not be in this war, for starters; hell, we might have taken out Osama bin Laden before 9/11 because the transition between administrations wouldn't have been all about ditching everything the other guy started. I'll bet money that we would have still had a professional disaster relief guy in charge of FEMA, and the folks in charge of the New Orleans levee system would still have been fully funded.

I'm pretty sure that those are three things that everyone agrees would be an improvement over the current situation; three disasters that we'd rather have avoided. And I blame Bill Clinton, who couldn't keep his fly zipped.

Sure, we would still have problems. And doubless the Democrats would still be acting just as spineless (Dean and Reid and Pelosi notwithstanding-- but note that two of the three of them wouldn't be in power at this point). But really, there's a certain amount of political bullshit that happens no matter what, I think. I'd rather have the continuing bullshit than have Iraq, 9/11, and Katrina.
